Merrill Shigematsu Murakami, 73, of Hilo died Nov. 23 at his residence. Born in St. Louis, he was a retired youth counselor for the Salvation Army Interim Home.
Private services were held. Family requests no flowers or monetary gifts.
He is survived by wife, May Murakami of Hilo; daughters, Joslyn (Alan) Tamura of Hilo, Kristi (Larry) Doran of Hawaiian Paradise Park, Lisha Gomez of Colorado; sons, Kevin Murakami of Hilo, Shawn Murakami of Honolulu; sisters, Lois Matsuda of Honolulu, Carol Pena of Virginia; five grandchildren; an uncle; a nephew; nieces, cousins and aunts.
